 | Very soon we will be embarking on a Campaign that we may be more excited about than any one we've ever been on before! Why don't you sit down and read all about it?
February 2010
Dear Friends of the Unreached:
We’re going to Pakistan! I may be more excited about this upcoming Campaign than about any one we have ever been on before--let me tell you why…
Some time ago, we conducted a magnificent Campaign in Southern Pakistan that whetted my appetite for more opportunities to minister Jesus’ love and power in this unreached, Islamic nation. Well, that time has come! From April 9-11, the week after Easter, myself and one of my sons (The Lord has not shown me yet which one to take!) will fly into Northern Pakistan for a 3-night Crusade, a 2-day Pastor’s Conference and a 1-day Teen Conference--Hallelujah! But the real excitement comes now, as I tell you where exactly this great Campaign will be taking place!
Last summer, a horrific event happened to the devout, sincere and faithful Christians in the city of Gojra, Pakistan. On July 30, all Hell, literally, broke loose. The August 29 issue of World Magazine relates a story that made the international news wires, secular and Christian alike, because of the severity of what happened. A Christian wedding was taking place at the same time as a Muslim funeral, so the wedding celebrants were told to stop their music. The wedding proceeded, and the next day Muslims confronted the parents of the bride, accusing their sons of cutting pages out of the Quran the size of currency notes and throwing them in the air during the celebration. The parents denied the accusations but said that their sons would apologize if the rumors were found to be true. The Muslims responded by beating the father and within a few days the incitement to violence spread to local mosques. No proof of the blasphemy charges was found, but Muslim clerics announced from loudspeakers that “if any Christian wanted to save his or her life, then get out of here or they would be killed.” A mob of more than 500 Muslims responded to the incitements by attacking Christians. The mob torched more than 60 homes, and most Christians fled.
Two days later in Gojra, thousands of militants armed with fuel and weapons advanced on the town’s Christian neighborhood. They looted and torched more than 100 homes during the 8 hour attack. The Hameed family lived at the entrance to the area and was eating breakfast when the riots began. When 75-year-old Punnan Kahn Hameed opened the door to see what was happening, he was shot dead. The rest of the Christian family fled to the back of the house but soon saw plumes of smoke and realized they were trapped in a burning house. A New York Times reporter spoke with Ikhlaq Hameed, one of the few family members who survived. He described the frantic scene as they tried to escape, recalling the final images of his aunt as he turned to see her engulfed in flames. Three women, two children and one man were killed as the roof collapsed in flames. In the aftermath of this tragedy, justice is still being sought for the perpetrators of these martyrdoms.
Years ago, I began a friendship with a prominent Christian leader who lives near Gojra. He and his family have ministered with much fruit in the region for years, and he has earned favor with both religious and secular leaders alike. By God’s grace, this man of God will be our Crusade Director for this opportunistic Campaign! Another International Evangelist friend of mine recently conducted a similar Campaign in a nearby city, working with the same Crusade Director. He made a strategic, fact-finding mission into Gojra to determine the feasibility of such a Campaign for us there. On receiving his report that the time is right and the Harvest is ripe, along with the Holy Spirit giving me the green light, I have eagerly agreed to go!
You know, the Early Church Fathers said that “The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.” We believe that our Campaign in Gojra, Pakistan the week after Easter will result in much eternal fruit for the Kingdom, in a place where Christian blood has been spilled. What can you do to help? Pray, pray and pray! I will not hesitate in asking each of you to pray fervently for us, that Jesus will use us mightily in the power of the Holy Ghost, during these special days of blessing for the lost, perishing and hurting in this needy part of the world. We’ll give you more updates in next month’s Joy Report--thanks so much for standing with us in our global quest for Souls!
For the Lost,
Kevin
