 | A Bible story involving King David and his Mighty Men teaches us a valuable lesson today about the excitement of partnership.
June 2010
Dear Partners for Souls:
Well friends, Jesus is on the throne--isn’t that the best news you could possibly hear? And as summer begins, we are in the process of gearing up for our exciting Crusade schedule for the second half of this year. I’ll tell you more about that soon, but today I would like to share with you a Biblical teaching on the blessings of partnership. I want to remind you how important your partnership with us is in reaching the world for Christ. In 2 Samuel 23, God shows us a wonderful picture of partnership…
“At that time David was in a protected place, and some of the Philistine soldiers were in Bethlehem. David had a strong desire for some water. He said, “Oh I wish someone would get me some water from the well near the city gate of Bethlehem!” So the 3 warriors broke through the Philistine army. They took water out of the well near the city gate of Bethlehem. Then they took it to David.”
What a story! The only incentive the 3 mighty warriors needed to fulfill their master’s wish was simply hearing his word, that he was thirsty. These 3 men risked their very lives, gave up all they had, simply to obey the word of their master. The wells in those days usually had ropes that people used to draw water from the depths. In times of war like these, however, the enemy usually cut these ropes to prevent their use by the rightful owners. So after the 3 men had broken into enemy territory, they had to organize to determine who would go down into the well after the water. While one crawled down the rope, the others would have to hold onto the rope for dear life. Once this was accomplished, they rushed back with joy to their master, the King, to share with him the victory of their hard work. To King David, all 3 of them were heroes, not only the one who went down to draw water! He knew all 3 had played a vital part in the victory.
Our life today is an incredible parallel to this story. From the cross, our Master cried “I thirst”, not only for water, but more for the salvation of the multitudes of souls He was dying for. Our family has heard His cry, and we are bursting forth with great urgency into enemy territory to satisfy His desire--which has become our desire--seeing the precious throngs of humanity receive Jesus’ forgiveness and the hope of Heaven. As we go down into the well of humanity, we need rope holders, people like yourself, who stand with us in prayer and finances and bring us there and back with the precious Water of Life. As you hold the rope for us in these ways, we are together able to accomplish life’s most important task--fulfilling the greatest desire of our Lord, the salvation of souls! As we return to our Master from the 4 corners of the world, with our own victory reports, we return together. It is not merely our family who receives Jesus’ commendation “well done, good and faithful servants”, but you too, our “rope-holders”, who share the joy of life’s greatest victory and reward!
Those who “draw the water”, those who preach to the multitudes, need you, the “rope-holders”, to bring us there and back. We all share equally in the joy, as we are equal members of a team of valued partners! That is why we share with you each month the wonderful works that Jesus is doing, so that you can know what the fruit of your valued partnership with us is accomplishing. Thanks for standing with us the way you do. I love you, I pray for you and I value you! Your partnership is making an incredible difference for eternity. Have a richly blessed month in the Holy Ghost!
For the Lost,
Kevin
